The project consisted of:

  • A 75m high concrete faced rockfill dam, crest length 280m , storage capacity 235 x 106m3
  • A 4.5m diameter diversion tunnel 270m long
  • A reinforced concrete outlet tower with multiple draw-offs
  • A 1.5m diameter steel penstock to a 2.6MW surface power station comprising one horizontal Francis turbine, rated head 55m

The total value of the project was approximately US$ 20 million in 1985 dollars.

Services Provided:

SMEC's services involved a complete feasibility study which included appraisal of the dam site, survey to provide topographic plans and sufficient data to prepare reservoir storage curves, hydrologic studies, geological and soils site investigations, office studies to develop conceptual designs and assess optimum storage capacity and allocation of water, and power pricing studies to compare the cost of electricity generated with local tariffs. Following acceptance of the proposals put forward in the feasibility study, services continued with detailed design, preparation of tender documents, calling and analysis of tenders, and contract administration and supervision of construction.
