Description of Project:

The project involved the review of preliminary and detailed design for 1.4 km of road tunnels in variable granitic rock as part of the Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme.

SMEC Malaysia Sdn Bhd was engaged by the construction contractor (CMC di Ravenna Malaysia Sdn Bhd) to carry out an independent review of the tunnel design including assessment of the engineering geology and expected geological conditions, assessment of the adequacy of primary tunnel support and final lining, and review of the portal design including numerical modelling of the expected portal convergence using FLAC.
