Description of Project:

The project was undertaken for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and involved updating the ranking of 11 hydro projects to provide TNB with a rational and consistent approach for the selection of the projects for implementation and integration into their generation expansion program.

The projects to be evaluated and ranked have previously been studied at different times and at various levels from a reconnaissance study on 1 scheme through to the preliminary study stage on 2 of the schemes. This lead to difficulties in establishing a ranking system to enable TNB to implement the most economically and environmentally viable scheme.

Services included assistance and guidance in the following aspects of the study:

• Review of previous studies and extent of existing information and investigations
• Water resources study of the command region
• Planning, supervision and analysis of additional geological and geotechnical investigations
• Additional hydrological studies
• Reservoir simulation studies
• Comparative studies of alternative schemes
• Optimisation studies of selected scheme
• Preparation of feasibility level design of the optimised scheme
• Preparation of detailed cost estimates
• Preparation of construction plan including contract packaging
• Economic and financial analysis.
